National Micro Finance Unit

Objective:

The major aim of the provision of micro-finance services is two fold, income and employment generation and poverty alleviation.

More specifically it will strive to achieve the following:

  • provide banking facilities to the poverty stricken;
  • foster the creation of self-employment amongst the numerous unutilized and under utilized human resources;
  • provide the poor with credit and some training so that they can fend for themselves;
  • assist the poor break out of the cycle of poverty;
  • facilitate rural development;
  • decelerate rural-urban migration
  • empower the marginalised poor, in particular , women;
  • facilitate sustainable livelihood for the poor and disadvantaged.

Project Type:

  • All legal business with the exception of money lending

Target Groups:

Men and women who are:
  • 18-60 years old;
  • not earning more than $100 per week
  • must be resident of the community for over 6 months
  • willing to participate in and physically capable of operating an income generating activity
  • with good attitude and behavior
  • of similar socioeconomic status;
  • not fully employed in the formal sector;
  • willing to attend a Compulsory training Session.

Selection Criteria:

  • Meets the target group criteria
  • Passes assessment checks
  • Completes Training successfully with viable business plan

Performance Indicators:

  • Repayment rate
  • Savings rate
  • Continuing Viable Enterprises
  • Improves standard of living for family.
